Which airport is best for Milan?
Linate (LIN) is the private-aviation airport of choice — just east of the city with its own business terminal, minutes from the centre. Malpensa (MXP), further north-west, handles larger and long-range aircraft. For most trips into Milan itself, Linate is fastest.
When is Milan busiest?
The peaks are the womenswear and menswear Fashion Weeks in February–March and September, and the Salone del Mobile design fair in April, when the whole city fills and private demand surges. The Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix at Monza in early September adds another spike.
The lakes and beyond
Milan is the gateway to Lake Como, Lake Maggiore and Lake Garda, all within an hour or so by car or helicopter, and to the ski resorts of the Italian and Swiss Alps in winter. Your advisor can tie a Milan arrival to a lakeside villa or a mountain transfer.
Where a private arrival actually lands at Linate
Private flights do not use Linate's passenger terminal. They use Milano Linate Prime, the business-aviation terminal SEA Prime runs on the west apron off Viale Enrico Forlanini, with its own road entrance, its own security and around 2,000 m² of building behind nine lounges and ten hangars. Jetex is opening a second FBO on the same apron. The aircraft parks a few metres from the door and the car is brought to it, so on a Schengen arrival from Geneva or Nice, wheels-down to moving is five to ten minutes. From London it is longer: the UK sits outside Schengen, so passports are checked, and the general declaration is mandatory on every international flight. Ten to fifteen minutes is the honest figure there.
The weeks that set the price
Four blocks of the year decide what a Milan trip costs. The womenswear and menswear Fashion Weeks in February and September; the Salone del Mobile in April, which fills Rho and the whole city for a week; the Italian Grand Prix at Monza in early September, which lands on top of the September fashion dates; and the motorcycle show in November. In those weeks the constraint is rarely the aircraft — it is a stand at Linate and a crew willing to wait for one. The London corridor starts from around €9,150 one-way and Nice from around €6,400, and those figures hold outside the peaks. Inside them, ask early: aircraft go two to three months ahead, and Linate parking permission is a separate request the operator files closer to the date.
Slots, the PPR and the parking bill
Linate is a Level 3 fully coordinated airport: every movement needs a slot from Assoclearance, and general-aviation and air-taxi flights up to 19 seats also need a PPR from the airport operator, granted on apron availability rather than on request. Both are the operator's job rather than yours, but they are the reason a departure cannot simply be pushed two hours later over dinner. Italian law treats 23:00 to 06:00 as the night period and limits what may fly in it on noise grounds. Parking is the part clients find out about afterwards. Since 2025 Linate charges by the tonne per hour — free for the first two hours, then a step up after 24 hours and again after 72. On a week-long stay it is often cheaper to send the aircraft empty to Bergamo, Brescia or Parma and bring it back, which is two repositioning legs on your quote.
Ground, luggage and animals
The car meets the aircraft at Linate Prime and the centre is 8 km away: about fifteen minutes late at night, closer to forty when the Salone or Fashion Week has the tangenziale solid. The M4 metro runs airport to San Babila in twelve minutes and is the one transfer traffic cannot spoil. Como, Maggiore and Garda are an hour or so beyond that. There is no baggage allowance on a charter. The limits are the hold's longest dimension and what the aircraft can lift with the fuel it needs — which is where ski bags and golf sets get decided in winter, so send counts and lengths with the request. Pets travel under the EU rules: microchip, EU pet passport, valid rabies vaccination. From the UK a GB-issued passport no longer counts; that means an animal health certificate and entry through a designated travellers' point of entry, and not every airport is one.
