London to Tel Aviv is four hours fifty minutes over the Alps and the Mediterranean — the longest leg on this site that still fits inside a working day. It is also the corridor where the rules change halfway. Everything about the London end is European and familiar. Nothing about the Ben Gurion end is. The flying is the easy part, and the return is the half to plan first.

How long is the flight from London to Tel Aviv?

Four hours fifty minutes nonstop, which is close to the scheduled time — so on this corridor a private aircraft does not buy you flying hours. It buys the day around the flight, and that is worth measuring honestly at each end rather than assuming it is symmetrical. Leaving London it is the familiar arithmetic: the car to the aircraft at Luton, Farnborough or Biggin Hill, minutes on the ground, wheels up on your schedule. Leaving Tel Aviv it is not. Departures from Ben Gurion go through the Israeli aviation security process, and that process applies to a private flight as much as to a scheduled one. It is handled in the VIP wing of Terminal 1 rather than in the public departures hall, and it is arranged with your handler rather than queued for — but it is not skipped, and it is not five minutes. The airport authority tells scheduled passengers to allow three hours; a private departure is quicker than that and still the longest ground time on this page. Plan the Tel Aviv end early and the London end late.

Which airports serve the London–Tel Aviv route

From London the practical list is Luton, Farnborough or Biggin Hill. Luton runs twenty-four hours and has the deepest handling capacity, which is why a late departure defaults there; Farnborough is faster on the ground but keeps shorter hours at weekends and carries an annual movement cap; Biggin Hill is the closest to the City by helicopter. London City is not on this list — a 1,508 m runway and a heavy jet carrying five hours of fuel do not go together, and the airport closes from Saturday lunchtime until Sunday lunchtime anyway. At the other end there is one airport, and clients still ask about the second. Sde Dov, the city field on the Tel Aviv seafront, closed on 30 June 2019 and has since been cleared for redevelopment. Haifa's runway is 1,318 m, which suits turboprops and light jets rather than anything that flies this sector. Ramon sits down by Eilat, a long drive south. Ben Gurion, twenty kilometres south-east of Tel Aviv and forty-five north-west of Jerusalem, is the answer.

How much does a private jet from London to Tel Aviv cost?

From about €44,200 one way, indicative rather than a quote. The figure that surprises people is the comparison with Paris: Le Bourget to Tel Aviv is 3,290 km and starts from about €31,850, and London is only 310 kilometres further. The extra is not distance. London–Tel Aviv is normally quoted on a heavy jet — a larger party, more luggage, and a five-hour sector in which a cabin you can walk about in stops being a luxury — and a heavy-jet hour costs what a heavy-jet hour costs. Ask for a super-midsize and the number moves toward the Paris one. The dates do the rest, and on this corridor the calendar is Jewish rather than European. The weeks around Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Sukkot in September and October, and Passover in the spring, compress a great deal of travel into a few days in each direction; Ben Gurion itself closes for Yom Kippur. Those are the dates to book early. August is busy without being the crush it is on the Riviera, and January and February are the quietest weeks here.

Empty legs between London and Tel Aviv

Less often than on the London corridors you may be used to, and far more often in one direction than the other. Empty legs are a density effect: they appear where many aircraft fly the same vector many times a week. There is no shuttle between these two cities in the way there is between London and Nice — 3,600 kilometres is a day's work for an aircraft, not something it does three times before Friday. What does appear is the return. A European aircraft that has taken a party to Tel Aviv has to come home, and if the clients are staying a week it comes home empty. So the empty leg on this vector is usually northbound out of Ben Gurion rather than southbound into it: useful if you are already in Israel and flexible about the day, close to useless if you are trying to get there on a fixed date. The honest advice is to book this corridor as a normal charter, early, and treat an empty leg as a bonus rather than a plan.

Which aircraft actually fly London to Tel Aviv

At 3,600 kilometres the range table is not the constraint. The Challenger 605, the Praetor 600 and the Falcon 2000LXS are all published at 7,400 km, and all three fly this sector with every seat sold and margin left over. That matters because the published figure is the manufacturer's long-range-cruise number with four aboard — a sector this length gives you enough room to stop worrying about the difference. So the choice is cabin and luggage rather than kilometres. Twelve seats in the Challenger 605, ten in the Falcon 2000LXS, nine in the Praetor 600, and in all three a flat floor and a lavatory behind a door — which matters at four hours fifty in a way it does not at ninety minutes. A super-midsize such as a Challenger 350 or a Legacy 500 also flies the leg comfortably and costs less; what you give up is cabin width, not margin. Send the passenger count and the luggage list together and the list narrows itself before anyone quotes.

The crew day, the curfew, and why the return is the leg to plan

London to Tel Aviv and back is nine hours forty minutes of flying before anything on the ground is counted, and the ground at Ben Gurion adds more than a European turnaround does. A same-day out-and-back therefore means a night stop or a second crew. Both are in the quote, and we put them there before you book rather than after. The other end of the clock is the curfew. Ben Gurion restricts overnight take-offs for noise: the published window runs from 01:40 to 05:00 in summer and to 05:30 in winter, with landings separately restricted in the small hours. The very late departure that Luton or Larnaca would accept has a hard stop here. Ben Gurion is also a fully coordinated Level 3 airport — business-aviation flights need an allocated slot like everyone else, requested by the operator, and the airport's own rule is that requests arrive not later than 48 hours before the flight. None of this is difficult. All of it is a reason to fix the return time at the enquiry rather than leaving it open.

Frequently asked questions

How long is a private flight from London to Tel Aviv?
About 4 hours 50 minutes nonstop. That is close to the scheduled time, so the saving on this corridor is the day rather than the flight — and it is smaller at the Tel Aviv end than in Europe, because departures from Ben Gurion go through the Israeli security process whether the aircraft is private or not.
How much does a private jet from London to Tel Aviv cost?
From about €44,200 one way, indicative. It is more than Paris–Tel Aviv despite being only 310 km further, because this corridor is normally quoted on a heavy jet rather than a super-midsize. Ask for the smaller cabin and the number moves. Every trip is quoted individually.
Which airport do I fly into in Tel Aviv?
Ben Gurion (TLV), 20 km south-east of the city. It is the only realistic option. Sde Dov, the old city airport on the seafront, closed on 30 June 2019; Haifa's runway is 1,318 m, too short for the jets this sector uses; and Ramon is far to the south near Eilat.
Are there empty legs from London to Tel Aviv?
Rarely southbound, more often northbound. An aircraft that has flown a party down has to come home, so the empty leg on this vector is usually out of Ben Gurion rather than into it. If your date is fixed, book a normal charter early and treat an empty leg as a bonus.
Do I need a visa for Israel on a British passport?
No visa, but an approved ETA-IL before you travel. Israel's electronic travel authorisation became mandatory for visa-exempt nationalities, British and EU passports included, on 1 January 2025. The government fee is NIS 25, most applications are decided within 72 hours, and an approval covers multiple entries over two years.
Can I fly London to Tel Aviv and back in one day?
Not on one crew. The round trip is nine hours forty minutes of flying before the ground time at Ben Gurion is added, so a same-day return means a night stop or a second crew. Ben Gurion's overnight take-off curfew, from 01:40, removes the very late option as well.
