Cyprus is in the EU but outside Schengen, so every arrival clears passport control; Israeli passport holders enter visa-free for up to ninety days. Business aviation uses Larnaca's original 1975 terminal, run around the clock by the island's only FBO, with the car at the aircraft and ten to fifteen minutes from wheels-down to moving. Larnaca has no curfew and is schedules-facilitated rather than fully coordinated, so the late return that this route is often used for is straightforward at the Cyprus end.

This corridor produces them for a structural reason rather than a lucky one, and the reason is parking. Ramp space at Ben Gurion is requested through the handler rather than guaranteed, so an aircraft that has brought somebody into Israel and is not needed for a day frequently does not stay. It goes to Larnaca, an hour north, and waits there. That movement is northbound, which is this direction, and it happens whether or not anyone is in the back. The catch is the clock rather than the price. A positioning flight leaves when the operator's next job says it leaves, and the departure process at the Tel Aviv end does not shorten because the flight is an empty leg — it is the same process with the same handler, and it is why the notice you need here is measured in hours rather than minutes. If you do not travel on an Israeli passport, re-entering Israel needs an approved ETA-IL. The electronic travel authorisation has been mandatory for visa-exempt nationalities, EU and British passports included, since 1 January 2025: the government fee is NIS 25, most decisions come within 72 hours, and an approval covers multiple entries over two years. It is something to hold before you leave, not something to sort out in Limassol. The hours are the second. Cyprus will let you go at any time of night; Israel will not take you at any hour. Ben Gurion restricts take-offs from 01:40 until 05:00 in summer and 05:30 in winter, with landings separately restricted in the small hours, so the way home has a stop the way out does not. The third is a single date. Ben Gurion closes completely for Yom Kippur — 20 to 21 September in 2026, October in 2027 — and the days either side of it are the tightest of the year in both directions.

What Tel Aviv to Larnaca is actually used for

Three things, mostly. A working day in Limassol — the shipping, fund and technology cluster there keeps this leg busy through January and February, when the rest of the Mediterranean is quiet. A weekend on a coast that is genuinely a different country an hour away. And, frequently, as the first leg of something longer: from Larnaca, Athens is an hour and fifty, Dubai three and a half hours, and London four and a half.
