Barcelona–El Prat is a major international hub with a proper business-aviation terminal, and it is the right choice for almost everyone. Sabadell, twenty kilometres north, has a 1,050 m runway: very light jets and turboprops only, but it is quicker on the ground and closer to the northern suburbs. The decision is made by the aircraft rather than by preference — a Citation XLS+ or Phenom 300, which is what most of this traffic uses, needs El Prat.

The season, hour by hour

June to September is the season, and within it the pattern is weekly: Thursday and Friday afternoons outbound, Sunday evening back. Fly against that rhythm and the same aircraft is a fraction of the price. The island's clubs set the calendar — the opening parties in late May and the closings in early October are two genuinely hard weekends to book — and in the winter the airport is quiet enough that a light jet can often be found the same day.

Empty legs between Barcelona and Ibiza

The island fills on Thursday and Friday afternoons and empties on Sunday evening, so the empty legs sit on Friday morning going north and Sunday morning coming south — exactly when nobody planned to travel. If your dates can invert that rhythm by half a day, this is one of the easiest corridors in Europe on which to catch one. If they cannot, book normally: on a July Friday the aircraft you want is already sold.

The eight months when this route almost disappears

From October to May the sector barely runs, and the consequence is not the one people expect. Demand falls, but so does the number of aircraft positioned anywhere near the Balearics — so a February booking is often served by an aircraft flown out from the mainland, with both empty sectors in the quote, and short notice is harder rather than easier despite the emptier airport. One date deserves a diary note. The airport runs 24 hours through 31 October and then closes from 23:00 to 06:30 from 1 November, which catches late-October trips that slip by a week: the same evening departure that was routine on the 29th is not available on the 2nd. Off-season is otherwise the good half of the year to fly this leg — quiet aprons, no slot pressure, and the island's restaurants open without a month's notice.
