Private jet charter from Geneva to Zurich
Geneva → Zurich
Geneva
ZurichForty minutes east, from the lake to the financial capital. For most of the year it is a corporate shuttle that the train covers almost as well; for one week in January it is the busiest short sector in Europe, because Zurich is the gateway to Davos.

The World Economic Forum week, which rewrites the rules
In WEF week Zurich handles several times its usual business-aviation traffic and manages it by restricting the ground, not the air: parking is capped at roughly two hours, so an aircraft that lands, unloads and stays is not an option. Yours will leave empty and return for you, and both ferry legs are in the quote — this is the single most misunderstood line on a January invoice. Onward transport to Davos is by helicopter or car and is booked at the same time as the aircraft; in that week, the helicopter is scarcer than the jet.
Arriving at Zurich, and leaving it
Zurich is slot-coordinated with a published night curfew at 23:00, but the last commercial charter departure slot is 21:45 — the number that actually governs your evening. Arrivals are accepted later than departures are permitted, which means Geneva to Zurich late in the day works when the return does not. The business-aviation terminal is on the west side of the field; the car meets the aircraft, and on a domestic Swiss flight there is no border formality at all, for people or goods.
Geneva's departure window
At the other end, Geneva stops departures at 21:26 and its parking is limited to three hours in the peak periods. In January those two rules compound: the aircraft cannot wait at Geneva while you finish a morning of meetings, and it cannot leave Geneva late to reposition for an early Zurich start. The practical consequence is that this sector is planned as a fixed pair of times, days ahead — and that a flexible half-hour on either end is worth more than a faster aircraft.
Empty legs between Geneva and Zurich
Plenty of empty flying happens on this pair and very little of it reaches you. A repositioning flight between Geneva and Zurich exists because an aircraft has already been booked at one end: it is on its way to collect a passenger, or it has just set one down. Either way it is under contract to be somewhere at a fixed time, which is exactly what an empty leg cannot be if you are going to buy it. The forum week in January is the extreme version. It generates more empty movement on this corridor than the rest of the winter together, and almost none of it is sellable, because every one of those aircraft is committed to coming back for its own passengers. Outside that week the odds improve, though the notice stays short — hours rather than weeks. The lever that works more reliably is the one nobody asks for: an aircraft already standing at Geneva, which takes the positioning flight out of the quote instead of discounting it.
What Zurich charges for the ground, and for a late hour
Zurich publishes its charges and they are smaller than people expect: a landing charge of CHF 96.50 for an aircraft up to 15 tonnes, which covers the light jets that fly this sector, plus CHF 4.30 passenger charge and CHF 13.00 security charge for each departing business-aviation passenger. The airport is not what makes a short sector expensive. The larger of the two ground numbers is the handler's invoice, which is commercial and unpublished, and it is the one worth asking to see itemised. Parking is free for the first two hours for business aviation, and not charged at all between 23:00 and 06:00 — the clock stops overnight. An aircraft that stays the night can therefore cost less on the ground than one that waits through an afternoon. In the World Economic Forum window, from two days before the event to two days after, the parking charge beyond the free period is increased by 200 per cent, separately from the two-hour parking limit the coordinator imposes that week.
Which aircraft actually fly Geneva to Zurich
From about €6,500 one way. A Phenom 300 or Citation XLS+ covers 230 km with room to spare, and nothing larger buys anything except baggage volume. As with every short sector, the price is dominated by the crew day, the minimum charge and the positioning — which is why a January quote can be several times a June one for exactly the same flight.
Typical aircraft
| Aircraft | Passengers | Range | Cruise speed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Embraer Phenom 300 | 8 | 3,650 km | ≈ 840 km/h |
| Cessna Citation XLS+ | 8 | 3,400 km | ≈ 815 km/h |
Estimated one-way charter for the whole aircraft. The exact price depends on the aircraft and date, and is always quoted on request.
Frequently asked questions
- How long is a private flight from Geneva to Zurich?
- About 40 minutes. The train takes two hours forty-five, station to station.
- Why does my aircraft leave Zurich empty during WEF week?
- Because it is not allowed to stay. Zurich caps parking at roughly two hours in that week, so the aircraft repositions and returns for you — and both ferry flights are in the quote.
- What is the last departure from Zurich?
- 21:45 for a commercial charter, earlier than the published 23:00 curfew, and it is not extended.
- Are there border formalities between Geneva and Zurich?
- None. It is a domestic Swiss flight — no passport control and no customs, for passengers or goods.
- Are there empty legs from Geneva to Zurich?
- Rarely as something you can buy. The empty flying on this pair is aircraft going to collect a passenger or returning from one, so it is committed to a time; in the forum week almost none of it is sellable at all. Ask instead for an aircraft already standing at Geneva — that removes the positioning leg rather than discounting it.
- How late can I land at Zurich?
- Later than you can leave. No arrival slot is issued from 23:00, and arrivals after 22:00 are already restricted, against a last charter departure slot of 21:45. A touchdown between 21:00 and 22:00 also carries a CHF 50 noise surcharge, CHF 100 after 22:00 and CHF 200 after 22:30.
